Office of Child Welfare and Children's Mental
Health (OCC)
The Office of Child Welfare and Children's Mental Health (OCC) exists to coordinate research and training
activities across these two child and family serving systems. One of the largest office at the KU School of Social Welfare,
the OCC comprises some forty faculty, research staff, training staff, and graduate research assistants. From a strengths
perspective, OCC researchers work at the local and national level to inform policy, service delivery,
professional training and education.

Office of Mental Health Research and Training
For over 20 years, the OMHRT has been devoted
to improving the lives of people with
psychiatric disabilities through the design and
testing of new mental health practices and the
dissemination of information through training,
workshops, conference presentations,
consultation and technical assistance and
articles in scholarly journals. Staff work
at the local and state levels in policy, service
delivery and professional methods.
Innovations developed by the office include
strengths model case management, recovery model
of medication use, client-centered supervision
model, consumers as providers training programs,
and implementation strategies for evidence-based
practices.

Office of Aging and Long Term Care (OALTC)
The Office of Aging and Long Term Care (OALTC) is located in the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare.
The office was created to improve social service practice and policy for older adults. The office also helps to develop
faculty and student's knowledge and skills in working with older adults. Faculty and staff work with the Kansas Department
on Aging (KDOA) and the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service (SRS), as well as a variety of other public and
private service organizations to provide research, training and technical support.
