Students at the foundation level of the MSW program complete 600 clock hours of field practicum over the course of the fall and spring semesters. They are in one continuous field placement for 20 hours a week over the course of 30 weeks. The foundation level practicum is considered to be a generalist experience covering direct practice, community practice, as well as research and policy practice. Typical agency settings for first level MSW students include community mental health centers, child welfare offices, nursing homes, juvenile justice and/or corrections settings.
