Alumni Perspectives
Nocona Pewewardy - Ph.D.('03)
The doctoral program impacted me in a positive way by providing a vehicle to
explore critical approaches to social work education and develop a lexicon to
communicate about complex interactions between and among diverse groups of
people with common human needs.
KyungMee Kim - Ph.D. ('03)
The program led me to think that research can be a type of social action. It
taught me that researchers should espouse social work value commitments and
engagement with people in the research process.
Mitsuko Nakashima - Ph.D. ('02)
I think the KU School of Social Welfare has an excellent doctoral program. KU
definitely has very rigorous requirements and prepares students well for the
doctoral dissertation and post-doctoral work. Each student can customize a
unique comprehensive exam process according to his/her interests. I find that my
six years at KU enabled me to build a strong foundation of scholarship to help
me pursue my career at University of Maryland at Baltimore.
