Living In Lawrence

Lawrence is a town like no other. The laid-back small-town atmosphere can be deceiving considering all the town has to offer. The University of Kansas contributes to making Lawrence a true college town, with numerous cultural and social events. Located just twenty minutes from the Kansas state capitol of Topeka and forty minutes from Kansas City, Lawrence is the perfect place to get the best of all that Eastern Kansas has offer. Many law students gain experience working or interning in Topeka, Kansas City, or Lawrence.

The relatively inexpensive cost of living is a benefit to students and faculty alike. Scattered throughout Lawrence are a wide variety of apartments, townhomes, and homes that cater to any budget. You can live close to the KU campus, or find peace and quiet on the edge of town next to beautiful Clinton Lake and still be ten minutes from campus. Although most students live in Lawrence, many commute from surrounding areas, like Topeka or Kansas City, making the transition to law school easier for their families.

The deep-rooted tradition of Kansas basketball provides exciting entertainment for any sports fan. Many law students take a break from the daily rigors of their studies and head over to Allen Fieldhouse to watch the Jayhawks in action. Season tickets are available to all students. The games not only include great basketball, but also incorporate some of the many KU traditions. Nightlife is a big part of the Lawrence scene. Historic Massachusetts Street livens up at night as students and faculty head to the many restaurants and bars for a night out. Music is a big part of Lawrence, and live performances at bars and performance halls can be heard every night of the week.

The University of Kansas significantly contributes to Lawrence's rich cultural life. Every week the Lied Center sponsors performances, from the musical sensation "Stomp!" to Cambodian Dance to the St. Petersburg Orchestra.

If you're looking for outdoor adventure, head to Clinton Lake for a day out on the water or biking on its surrounding park's many trails. Lawrence also has several beautiful, tree-lined golf courses for every golf enthusiast.
