The School of Social Welfare is fortunate to have the support of friends and alumni who have made these resources possible. Financial awards vary in amount. The primary source of funding for students is federal loans.
The School of Social Welfare has several sources of financial assistance available to students who meet various criteria. Awards are made on an annual basis and are applied directly towards tuition and fees in most instances. MSW students interested in applying are required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as a School of Social Welfare application. All recipients are expected to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and students must renew their applications each year they wish to be considered.
These awards are made possible through the generous support of friends and alumni of the School of Social Welfare and KU Endowment Association. We are grateful to all of our donors who have contributed to make these awards possible and to the KU Endowment Association for their faithful stewardship of these resources.

William Murphy, KU MSW 1928, and Monte Murphy, class of 1927, established this fund to assist social work students in financial need, particularly when that need arises from the added expense of a graduate education. Awards are made on the basis of financial hardship, as demonstrated through the Free Application of Federal Student Aid. Applicants must be in good academic standing, maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Awards in 2006-2007 ranged from $500-$1500.
The KU Endowment Association provides funds for student fellowships matched by monies from the School of Social Welfare. The School of Social Welfare's William Palm Minority Student Fund was established by the Alumni Society. Named in honor of William Palm, a member of the first graduating class of MSW students in 1948, these funds demonstrate the School's longtime commitment to provide support for enrollment of under-represented minority students in the MSW program. Financial need is the primary consideration in the award process; students must submit a Free Application of Federal Student Aid to be eligible. Applicants must be in good academic standing, maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Awards in 2006-2007 ranged from $700-$1500
