The School of Social Welfare provides the education and experience necessary for a career in social work. By helping shape students’ capacity for caring, the school prepares social workers to carry out the unique purposes of the profession: to develop human potential, to promote individual well being, and to bring about a more just society.
Our undergraduate program is one of the strongest at KU and prepares graduates for beginning generalist social work practice, focusing on the interface between the individual, the family, groups, organizations, and communities. Students learn to emphasize strengths, understand the importance of various roles, promote social and economic justice and apply a critical perspective.
In addition to our traditional BSW program at the Lawrence Campus, we also offer a 2+2 program in partnership with Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC). Students enrolled in the program take upper-level social work courses with KU professors who come to the KCKCC campus.
We take pride in our programs, and in our commitment to a strong social work education. Please take some time to explore our site. You will find a variety of information to help you make your educational decision and guide you through the admission process.
